Old Kevin Shields clearly got a bit jealous seeing his old muckers in Dino Jr tossing their great orbs about on stages across the world over the past few years. And now Primal Scream are in one of their regular true-spirit-of-rock-and-roll phases, there's not much call for the sonic mastermind to weave his noisy magic all over their live shows.
So, after months of speculation on these very pages and beyond, it seems that Shields has confirmed that My Bloody Valentine have reformed and are working on new material. According to Billboard, the November 12th installment of Ian Svenonius' Soft Focus programme on Vice website vbs.tv will reveal that there's an album first started in the '90s and now nearly completed, along with "new stuff" in the works for 2008.
This has been confirmed by a "source" close to Shields. It is now not thought that MBV will playing Coachella next year, as was previously speculated. Anyone who's thinking they might put a couple of quid on Shields & co turning up to play the Explosions In The Sky-curated ATP would do well to ponder on the sense of a band booking a band who they sound like a bit of a shonky copy of.
