Jorge Ben Jor
Live @ The Coronet Theatre - Fri 27th June

As a composer, singer, musician, bandleader and arranger, Jorge Ben Jor is unique. His characteristic style fuses samba, funk, and rock, with lyrics that blend humor and satire with often esoteric subject matter (frequently football). He was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1942 and in his early years as a musician he exploded with music that had nothing to do with the Bossa Nova or traditional samba of the time. Purists thought that his music was too modern and it was difficult for musicians of the time accompany him – today musicians fight to collaborate with this innovative artist and joining him at The Coronet will an impressive twenty-one piece band!

He is probably best known as the composer of the Bossa Nova classic ‘Mas Que Nada’ and when the entire world became captivated by Bossa Nova, Jorge rose to prominence. ‘Mas Que Nada’ remains to this day the most played song in the USA sung entirely in Portuguese. Since the song was written in 1963 ‘Mas Que Nada’ has been recorded by hundreds of other recordings of singers and music groups of tens of countries of the world including Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzie Gilespie, Julio Iglesias and Jose Feliciano.
