'They Came From the Stars I Saw Them' Seen

A better venue for this group couldn’t be found in all of London.  The transvestite and his popcorn machine filled the place with buttery kernel scent.  The bar was trimmed with strings of red lights, and managed by a woman who, if bartenders received gold watches for ‘millionth drink served,’ would have enough bling to get respect in Peckham.  The most miraculous feature was the illuminated 3-meter heart back-dropping the stage.  With the round tables on the edges of the dance floor, it was a great venue for a cabaret.  From my understanding, a burlesque show was scheduled, but never happened.  Alas.

The front-man and keyboardist of ‘They Came From the Stars…’ got the crowd tuned-in and involved from the beginning.  He implored us to run about with toilet paper streamers, do the ‘bunny dance’ (which still makes me smile), and jump up and shout - generally things people don’t do on their own.  Hell, he even got some of us to look our dancing neighbors in the eyes.  Weird!  The music never got samey, but rather continually took us to new pop vistas, at times feeling like a beach party, other times like a high school dance.  That is, of course, a Martian beach party, or an starsinter-dimensional school dance.  I really enjoyed being guided through the music by these guys (the sax player’s charming looks didn’t hurt my eyes).  Even though the lead singer hit a few fringe notes, or the sax got lost in the music once or twice, it didn’t matter.  Everybody was there to have fun, especially them.  Keeping everything level was a versatile drummer who, if you’re trying to fulfill your own top-of-the-pops dreams, would be an excellent musical mercenary.  As a unit, they put on a good show with songs you’ll either want to dance to, or sing along with, or both.  See them if you can.

It’s also worth mentioning that 50% of their fan base is hot girls.  But listen, boys:  Beware of these well-dressed vixens.  Trust me.  They came from the stars.  I saw them.  Ha ha punny.  I slay myself.
