Oh they're just doing this to get on my wick. My bloody nerves, my entire conciousness yo-yos like a method actor in a gay bar every time anyone even sneezes a reference to Vampire Weekend at me. The very publically infuriating schtick about the VW, is that they're pretty good. And pretty shit as well. Like A-Punk, their download-chart straddling sort-of-hit, which married blundering oi-oi indie drizzle to pan pipes and Jethro Tull in the space of one song, and then pumped out Oxford Comma with it's clever-college grad video and deadly serious catchiness. Next up, and thus completing a full house on re-releasing the entirely of their debut EP as A sides comes Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, AKA the one that one with the title that sounds like a kids meal at a theme park restaurant, and sounds like just like Paul Simon, unlike the rest of their debut, which sounds like an imitation of Paul Simon. But this is great, all very Rhythm of The Saints; was that a namecheck for Peter Gabriel? Did he REALLY say "is your sweater on? Do you want to fuck?" Of course he did! Although complete baloney and incredibly easy to throw away, in that you'll never quite decide whether this is fantastic and sounds like an underwater clam party straight out of The Little Mermaid, or as annoying as pissing on your own trouser leg, but for as long as you don't have to think about whether it's a keeper or not, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa is very bouncy, very silly, fun. Even if it about fucking, which is neither of those.
