Oh, and while I'm here - I also hate this.

I know you're not meant to like songs that are number one. Songs that people buy. But come on: seriously - how much more fucked up could this be?

1) Katy Perry and/or her record label choose the exact time Gary Glitter is unleashed on the world to release 'I Kissed a Girl', their sexually-challenging (if utterly vapid) second-rate 'Rock 'n' Roll Part 2'. Bringing glam rock back into the limelight! Ill-advised, methinks?

2) Katy's last single 'Ur so Gay' seems to completely disagree with the sexually-experimental ethos of this apparently liberal lesbian-flirtation anthem. Although, when you look closely, lyrics like "I hope my boyfriend don't mind it" are more in keeping with her last jock-friendly outing, which railed against guys who dare to exhibit feminine characteristics, by... well... calling them 'gay'! Right on! It's okay to be a bender, as long as you're a girl - cos then it's sexy! Apparently, in the video (which I haven't watched, but will post below) she wakes up and it's all a dream. What a challenging narrative! 

3) I don't like the look of Katy Perry. She's got that whole 23 year old dressed up as a 7 year old thing that's almost as creepy as the opposite American obsession. We seriously need to interview Gary about this single, I'm sure he'd have loads to say. I've also heard the video goes much more for the sexy lesbian angle than the paedo-pop one, but either way I couldn't care less. I'm still recovering from the Kid Rock video...

4) About a decade ago Jill Sobule wrote a song with exactly the same title, which was really quite good, if a little twee, and nobody has been sued yet. Well, screw you Katy Perry! Why don't you go back to working with Avril Lavigne and Limp Bizkit. (Yeah, you heard me.)

5) It's a shit song. Like, really, really shit. Fucking awful. Like, Noah and the Whale awful. And then some.

6) Although, it did knock Kid 'Cock' Rock off the number one spot...
