Those Dancing Days live at the Barfly last night

I finally got a chance to see the Swedish ladies Those Dancing Days play live last night and they were everything I was hoping they'd be! At first I wasn't sure I could take the omg-totally-80s fashion (complete with a moussed out perm!) seriously, but Linnea Jönsson's vocals and exuberant dancing were more than enough to distract me from the spectacle. Her voice is every bit as soulful and smooth in person as they are on record, and the crowd that turned out for this pre-release gig were definitely taking their Dancing seriously.

They played a great mix of old favourites off their self-titled EP (including a brilliant rendition of 'Hitten' with a slowed-down intro) and new songs off the album, even getting the crowd clapping along to 'I Know Where You Live'. My only complaint is that the set just wasn't long enough, ending on the eponymous, Hammond-fuelled frenzy of  'Those Dancing Days', with no encore in sight.

They're back again in London next month, Oct 21 at KCLSU, and are well worth seeing before jetting off again.
