Muxtape Merked, Goes Legit

I'm very late with this news - nearly a month, which is a gaphrillion years in Internet time, but it interests me anyway.

Muxtape, the pretty good website of mp3-uploaded 'mixes' that you could meander through without the bullshit of LastFM or the lonely wankery of torrent sites, has been shut down.

I ain't not one bit surprised: when it was still new to me my tracks were being frisked every now and then, leaving my mixtapes sad and depleted. The existing profile looks like this.

I like FIVE songs - still, a pretty good five I'm sure you'll agree.

If you want to read Justin Oulette (the creator)'s experiences of being shat upon by major labels and lawyers and suchlike it's a predictably miserable read. Click here.

"Thank to you everyone who made Muxtape the incredible place it was in its first phase, it couldn’t have happened without your mixes. The industry will catch up some day, it pretty much has to,"

says Mr. Oulette.

The site is soon relaunching as a legal platform for new musicians. We simply don't need another one of those so it had better be bloody good...
