Gay Is Good!

Sean Paul has joined Kanye West in blasting the homophobic lyrics rife in today's hip-hop and reggae choons. The Jamaican 'Shake That Thing' star claims the neanderthal gay-bashing prevalent in Jamaican music is damaging the true message of the island's hip-hop scene.

Speaking to posh lefty not-quite-broadsheet The Guardian, he says: "People need to free up their thinking," referring to artists like Tok whose 'Chi Chi Man' exhorts listeners to "Blaze di fire mek we dun dem! Dun dem! Rat tat tat every chi chi man dem haffi get flat," which roughly translated means "Let's set gay people on fire and shoot them dead."

In a similar diatribe, "A Nuh Fi Wi Fault" by Elephant Man cheerfully exclaims "Battyman fi dead! Please mark we word. Gimme tha tech-nine. Shoot dem like bird." Nice.

"Right now my question to these dudes is, 'Why say it so many times?'" asks Paul. "It's really hurting the music on a monumental level."
