Production mutha Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream has joined a group in swanky Hamstead, North London, to petition against a couple of local pubs opening their doors later - thanks to relaxed licencing laws. Room 68 and the Horse and Groom are hoping to extend their licences to 1am and 12am respectively, but residents fear the establishments will use it as an excuse to blare out loud music and give rise to anti-social behavour.
Shields complained: "As a musician I object to being forced to listen to music I don't like while someone else makes money. The worst are the Dido remixes.
"It's a classic case of they don't give a damn. When I built my studio in Camden I spent £70,000 getting it sound proofed. They pump their music out at 120 decibels!"
Another neighbour, philosophy teacher Donald Hill complained "this is... not a honky tonk area for idiots."
He added that the local area was a "convenient place for vomiting, urinating and general littering..."
