The Gossip played a storming set at a rare tiny gig last night, and PlayLouder can telly you all about it. The band, ably supported by Blood Red Shoes, played the Camden Barfly for the affable John Kennedy's Xposure radio programme.
But as well as a set packed with the swanky hits, some onstage nudity and a terrific cover of 'Careless Whisper', it seems that The Gossip have gone from amazing little soul punk band to huge pop phenomenon. For Ditto was escorted all night by two scary looking dudes in flak jackets, while the pavement outside the Barfly was rammed with sodden, desperate-looking members of the Paparazzi frantically trying to coerce Ditto into saying mean things about Lily Allen. The sad fools.
The Gossip play one of those mySpace 'not terribly well kept' secret shows in Manchester tomorrow night, before returning to the UK in June for Glastonbury and things like that.
