His nose is pointy with a large divot, his eyes are beady, he sports a bowl cut, his grin is disgusting, and yet Irish singer Chris De Burgh has spawned the current Miss World! Rosanna Davison, 19, saw off the challenge of 105 competitors to emerge victorious and crowned Miss World. Davidson - a journalism student, and Miss Ireland of course, made the step up at the beauty pageant held at Sanya, southern China.
"I am thrilled and delighted." she said, "It is a great honour and I want to thank everyone who has supported me, especially my parents."
"I have had a wonderful time here in China, where the people have welcomed us everywhere. Now I have a year of excitement, travel and working for various charities to look forward to."
De Burgh himself said: "My wife Diane and I are thrilled and delighted for Rosie. Along with all the girls, she has worked so hard. As a family we feel very fortunate.
"Rosie will be a committed ambassador as Miss World. I know she will throw her heart and soul into the year and the work ahead."
Judges included film star Jackie Chan, Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell, and Julia Morley, who launched the competition in 1951.
Last year's pageant, won by Miss Turkey, was steeped in controversy after riots in host country Nigeria left more than 200 dead.
