I certainly agree with the first sentence of 'a great line-up of performers took to the stage last night'.....however, its a shame that for someone who can obviously write you seem to have had difficulty reading. There were posters and a lot of information floating around about who was playing that night, and it seems very lazy for someone who feels able to review a gig you can't be bothered to find out who was actually playing. They were called Diagonal by the way.

i'd have to agree with the silent reader - you seemed to know they were called diagonal...anyway, like Bitches Brew but with different instruments? what you like, rhodes, bass, guitars, drums, sax? ;) Everyone seems to throw bitches brew in as a reference to anything jazzy whilst distorted. I think they were more like a jazzier deep purple, with some gentle gianty changes going on - but then I do like progressive rock. And I'm guessing they do too ;)

I'm guessing they also like mind-altering substances and campfires. They were pretty cool.
thesvenhunter started stalking Diagonal
adamb, you should check these guys out!
thesvenhunter invited adamb to Diagonal
is this a live chat thing
sort of
depends really
it's kind of half and half
but if you invite a user to the chat, it informs them via email
and they ignore you / log in as they see fit
I am now stalking you
take THAT
stalking
yes
the little eye button, it means I will be informed of your movements onsite
its slightly rank a word
it's not very positive sounding is it?
non
it's less sinister than it sounds though
you enjoyed the prog then
it's sort of a compliment
I did
more so than I thought I would
it grew on me
I also liked the hair
so much of it
I think the band draws their power from it
there's no two ways about it with prog
the growing, you mean?
well both actually
what did you think of invasion?
pretty intense
I'd definitely watch them again
yea, impressive at the start
ive seen them alot
I think I like them more than their influences
her voice is amazing
gets a bit samey
yeah?
but if you're thrashing your head around
yeah
then it works
well, personally, even Hoof are mainly a live prospect
and why shouldnt it be simpler
true
unfortunately
though they are more proggy and well-thought out in song-structures etc
theres a couple of tracks they have
that are just perfect for what they do
and the Pre-Emptive False Rapture album was much better than any bits and bobs of recordings I'd heard before
yeah
great showmen too
but the rest dont cut it as hard
obviously
or with as much zeal
its refreshing
that 'tonyte' track makes good party music
depending on the aprty
yea, its the best track
definitive
defo
moss-covered obelisk is pretty awesome too
simply for hopping between about 3 distinct genres
these people are all in other abnds aren't they?
wasn't the woman from Invasion in some pretty famous band before?
yes, the bassist is in cathedral
if they still go
a pretty famous abnd I haven't heard anything by
i think so
I think Cathedral are on hiatus
maybe indefinite. Not too sure
i was told she was in something but i cant remembe
i keep wanting to say S express
but that is impossible
that was that twat woman
sonique
wasnt it
haha
dunno
Invasion woman wasnt in them though
thought she was in Chrome hoof prior to Lola but I am probably wrong
well she joined in with them that time
hink
I was pretty drunk when I saw em first so I may have imagined a shorter frontwoman
i think
yeah she did at Dingwalls
aha
are you in concurrence with the gentle giant vibe of diagonal
with their vibe?
think so, although I think they suffered from being the most incongruous band on the bill
f and invasion seemd more natural bill-sharers
gh
it was a good mix though
yea
oops - that should say 'hoof and invasion' up there
where can you put prog rock though i suppose
haha
indeed
post rock doesnt cut it for me
it is by it's very nature an object which does not stack easily on shelves
yes, i think it must be deliberate
I think post rock has its place too, but I listen to more prog
that invasion woman was in do Me Bad things, btw
although, why I have capitalised only the two middle words is anybody's guess
ah yes
never heard anything by them
have heard of them
no. same here. maybe they weren't as famous as I presumed
clears that up
YES, i was thinking I might go see Diagonal in a Church in September
phew, what a relief
dig it
also i saw Chrome Hoof on saturday
i mean friday
(I think you would)
in a church
so its all relevant
dont thell me they're christian
really?
haha yeah they're doing a Mass or something. one of them is actually a vicar
!?
haha surely not
a mass á la Black widow?
nah its just one of those gigs in churches things that people do sometimes. in brighton.
could be epic
suitably baroque i feel
yeah
could sound shit
as in, church sound
is something that has many variables
boomy etc
often the atmosphere makes up for it
I saw Virgin Passages in a church and that kind of worked, but they are much quieter
i hope the church has a big pipe organ, and the get to use it
yeah i think Low played the same church a while back
pipe organ would be massive
though possibly uncontrollable
in volume
they had some dudes in brighton a couple of months back doing happy hardcore music on a huge church organ
god would probably be angry if it was used for prog rock anyhow
i missed it, outrageously
not if it was GENESIS
i reckon god would be into prog
happy hardcore, argh!
haha
"lol"
that lol in quotes looks like a vulture. sort of
there is very little happy about hardcore
happy hardcore makes me think of rape victims in ditches and crashed cars
bad memories?
also, if happiness is an emotion, doesn't that make happy hardcore basically an offshoot of emotional hardcore, which is... EMO!!!
yeah, the 90s sucked man
not if D-REAM had anything to say about it
Diagonal was tagged with happy hardcore by thesvenhunter
i wish i hadn't mentioned happy hardcore
or D REAM
they're not happy hardcore
is this thing on public view
although it did introduce me to "The Sun Always Shines on TV" by A-HA
does that mean people looking for prog
oh yeah
yeah i think this is saved for the ages
I don't know if it's googlable
until the internet reboots itself
will have to talk about harcorn
but everything you tag on the right makes it internallly and externally more searchable
its ok
so what prog
do you favor
comus!
lets get serious
Diagonal was tagged with Comus by thesvenhunter
comus, nice
DEEP
hey, comus are HARROWING
very
but not as deep as Caravan, of course
whom I also like
ahh, they're lovely
in the best sense of the word
yeah
that wish i was stoned song
Giant Squid are ace - but they are modern and basically metal based in their prog
I was just thinking of that song! Reminds me of not doing any work at university. hurrah
not like dream theatre i hope
what's your prog of choice?
crikey
no GS are pretty weird and not very theatrical.
Diagonal was tagged with Giant Squid by thesvenhunter
Diagonal was tagged with Caravan by thesvenhunter
to be honest, i started with things like
give me some Yes
yes\'s close to the edge
:-)
i dont care if its not cool
ha
its glory
in different parts
people hate them
for no real reason
even people who like prog
crimson of course
heard of area?
Area? No. I also havent heard any crimson
an album to start with would be good...
well, crimson are undeniable
they went through phases
early stuff is classic, whistful
court of the crimson king
mellotrony
then they went proto metal
then chunky post punk prog
yea, thats their start
work from there really, you wont be dissapointed
until perhaps BEAT
thats what i did
83'
though i still like some of that
what about Camel? I've never heard em...
Diagonal was tagged with King Crimson by thesvenhunter
camel are good
bouncey and melodic
if slightly lacking in OOmpf
but i'm thinking in terms of the singer really
possibly my favourite prog moment, or... any kind of moment, is the following:
Diagonal was tagged with YouTube - Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein by thesvenhunter
haha classic
albino funk prog
probably the best albino funk prog
thats bad assssss
thats bad asssss
and my second favourite musical albino after the un-prog David Wrench
dont know him
my second favourite prog albino is johnny winter
though he's not really prog
well, he's not prog, he's sort of synth based pop
he's blues thang
he's his brother right?
