Erm..
So, can't quite bring myself to write the reviews I was going to. Too busy trying to get into hip new up-and-coming music.
So what does everyone make of that BBC list thingie:
1. Adele
3. The Ting Tings
5. Foals
7. Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong
9. MGMT
2. Duffy
4. Glasvegas
6. Vampire Weekend
8. Black Kids
10. Santogold
Hmm... what's wrong with that. Anyway, naturally I've heard of almost none of them. Wouldn't give Foals the time of day. Am not entirely sure that the best of international musical talent all comes from the same little school in London (re: Adele) but then, I do rate Katie Melua VERY highly. And that one Adele song was alright.
Duffy? Alright. Not my thing.
Joe Lean and the Hilariously names band? Hmm. still can't recall what they sound like but he's got a nice face.
I think I like that Ting tings song now after 3 listens. I enjoy the 'chat' interface, as it doesn't pressure one into pretending to know more about stuff than one does.
How about that One More Grain, eh? Pretty hip, I hear...
And now it's only posted 10% of my large and comprehensive chat
How irritating
Where has the rest gone?
Based on that BBC thing:
1. Adele - quite like that one song but am loathe to acquiesce (?) that all the good music of the world comes from one little very gay school in London. Though, Katie Melua did...
3. The Ting Tings - like that one song after 3rd listen.
5. Foals - wouldn't give them the time of day.
7. Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong - Still can't remember their song after hearing it many times. Nice face though.
9. MGMT - what?
2. Duffy - alright. not my thing.
4. Glasvegas - F#$%&&. Listen to 'Geraldine' on their MySpace. Awesome.
6. Vampire Weekend - Yeah alright.
8. Black Kids - What?
10. Santogold - Where?
So yeah. Here's my 10 to watch (not necessarily new bands, just ones I'll be watching in a sort of pervy voyeurish way:
1 - One More Fucking Grain - Mojo faves
2 - Glasvegas - Hope I'm not sick of them by Feb/ Hope I can get into a non-wembley sized gig
3 - The MEads of Asphodel - because someone's got to
4 - Antichrisis - Finally the follow-up to '98's syupendous 'A Legacy of Love'?
5 - Aes Dana - 3rd album for French Pagan metal band? Will it see them get signed by a reasonably sized label? Probably not - they're a French pagan metal band.
6 - British Sea Power - little known band from south england or something. Anyone wants to sell me a ticket to a london show I'm in.
7 - Pydos in Spydos - Will this be the year for these elusive genii to unleash their perverted pop into our unsuspecting ears? Who knows? Not me, certainly.
8 - Erm I don't really know jack shit about new music but I'm looking forward to my brother's new album!
9 - Also, hopefully The Boggs will finally do a UK tour.
10 - And perhaps the controversy surrounding my debut album will disperse and I can arise like a lobster from mashed potato and maybe even learn to play a 'D' on my ukelele.

I see now what has happened
Every time I try start a new line it insists on a new post - a new picture and a new time - so people can see how slowly I type/ copy and paste and so that it looks like I'm having a conversation with myself
Which I basically am now.

you can get a multiline input box by clicking the little down pointing arrow thing under the scrollbar, just abouve the chat inputting box. We probably need to make that a little more obvious!
But yeah, One More Grain deserve widespread fame and adulation this year, without a doubt
and you're about the millionth person to reccomend Glasvegas to me, so I really should have a listen
Less impressed with Vampire Weekend though - was thoroughly underwhelmed by their album the other day
Yeah? I'm not convinced either, but I've only heard the one. I wish I could delete 90% of the repeated stuff up there. It looks like one of my essays on 18th century lit now, but even less deceptive.
Maybe when I'm more sobre I'm better at working the controls. Wouldn't be allowed to operate some machinery after a few glasses of wine. Or cars. Or guitars.
a few glasses of cars? I should bloody hope not.
Fair point.
would have been fine as content
rather than chat
Well, the idea was that it'd get people involved, but now that seems unlikely
That bbc list looks like it was compiled by Vince Noir - far too trendy and full of pointless forgettable crap. The fact Circulus have disbanded after getting nowhere does not fill me with hope for the future, unless they get revived in ten years time and become the next velvet underground type of thing, as they rightfully should.
Let's see if I can come up with a list then. In no particular order:
No I can't
I can only think of the Koolaid Electric Company and Envy and Other Sins, and then a load of stuff done by people from old bands I like
Julian Cope does a good job of talking up some new stuff on www.themodernantiquarian.com
Vampire Weekend? What an appalling name. Sounds like a 6th form fashion project run by a couple of daddy's girl rich goths who've never heard of any of the original 80s goth bands. I can't be bothered to investigate
Foals is an even worse name. Not as bad as the music or the posturing though. Them and Klaxons. And the Gossip. Punk funk/nu-rave/electro or whatever utter cunts.
And the fucking Horrors. Vince Noir even goes on stage with them in one episode
Yeah The Horrors are vapid and classically 'so last year next year from the word go'. Julian cope is a dude. He released Cadaverous Condition's death folk compilation. He's second to NONE.

Envy and Other Sins won that godawful extended-mobile-phone-advert-cum-talent-show on Channel 4 last year.
But a few of the bands on there weren't bad
The Bad Robots being perhaps the most notable, in my mind
However, the majority of them were skinny-trouser-legged sneering cunts though
skinny jeans are so out. It's all about wearing wedding dresses and carrying toy machine guns now. Or it will be soon. Trust me.
