(Tuesday 18th March 2008) The Smirnoff Co. is pleased to announce it will be returning to Scotland on April 17th 2008 with Smirnoff Electric Cabaret™ at Glasgow’s ABC club, for a night showcasing and celebrating some of the most original nightlife and entertainment around.

The night will feature an eclectic mix of contemporary cabaret acts including contortionists, magicians and beat-boxers alongside some of the UK’s most exciting musical talent, not least New Young Pony Club. A sunny day funk outfit for the 21st Century, NYPC perfectly marry dance floor abandon with pop sensibilities and continue to pick up fans from all corners of musical inclination. Fronted by the captivating Tahita Bulma on vocals, the band arrived on the scene in 2006 with an explosion of colour matched with infectious melodies and a dynamic live show. Last year, the group were honoured with a prestigious Mercury Prize nomination.

The night will also see Maximo Park take to the decks proving they don’t need guitars to rock. The band will be teaming up with Glasgow-based dance music don Linus Loves for an exclusive Rock-vs-Dance collaboration. A respected producer and label head honcho, Linus can lay claim to bringing the Isle of Skye’s most famous son, Mylo, to the masses; releasing the chart-topping “Destroy Rock ‘n’ Roll” LP on his Breastfed label back in 2004.

Next up will be Mystery Jets, a truly eccentric band who defy any attempt at categorisation. With a father and son in their line-up and a residence on London’s quirky Eel Pie Island (also home to The Who’s publishing company and the inventor Trevor Baylis), the ‘Jets’ sound effortlessly straddles power pop and guitar punk with a knowing ease. Completing the musical offering will be Pete and the Pirates who, on the back of their acclaimed Little Death debut LP, will be delivering their signature brand of garage rock, Mersey-style pop and musty ballads.

Complementing the energy of the music will be the diversity of a handpicked line-up of contemporary performers. Bone-bending contortionist Captain Frodo will squeeze his body through a tennis racket whilst speed-painter John Hicks makes a masterpiece out of a mess; creating a gigantic portrait of a musical legend in the time it takes to play one song. Also starring will be rock ‘n’ roll trapeze duo the Wau Wau Sisters, Will Smith’s human beatbox of choice The Petebox and a host of others.

At the event, guests will be encouraged to go to town in the fancy dress box and will be introduced to unique ways of serving drinks. After the opportunity to sample a Smirnoff cocktail on entry, once inside, guests may be invited to choose a drink by scent, with greeters using specially-designed ‘snifters’ (hand-blown glass nosing tubes) to offer a choice of three different drinks.

Having first made it’s mark in 2006 at London’s Koko, with art-popsters Fischerspooner and man-becomes-6ft-balloon-act Bruce Airhead, the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret has gone from strength to strength entertaining crowds at sold out shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Ibiza. After another spectacular show at Koko in November 2007 featuring the talents of Grammy Award-winners Ok Go and electro wunder-kid Kissy Sellout, Smirnoff Electric Cabaret is ready to take Glasgow’s ABC club by storm.
