Become a Freelance Writer

Average Earnings: $20-$1,000 per article, depending on experience

If you find yourself frequently writing novel-length social media posts, you may want to consider becoming a freelance writer as a side job.

Freelance writing is a great starting point for many people who want to get a second job, as it requires little training, and offers diverse opportunities. The best part about becoming a freelance writer is that you can work at your own pace, work from anywhere, and set your own schedule.

The pay for freelance writing can vary greatly, depending on how serious you decide to take it. For example, you can work for an agency and make around $20 per article, or you can create your own freelance writing company and make much more.

If you loved writing papers in school, but don’t want to “re-enroll” yourself, you could even help other students write their papers. Students frequently Google, “Pay for essay to be written.” There are sites where you can be an paper writing service such as Speedy Paper and Write A Paper For Me.

If you have a more significant level of writing experience and education, you can be a writer for a wide variety of higher-level blog categories like the legal or medical industries. In these specialty areas, you could make up to $1000 per article in a specified niche.

Become a Proofreader

Average Earnings: $15-$50 per hour, depending on experience

Do you pay great attention to detail, have a passion for reading, and love grammar? Then perhaps you could become an evening proofreader as a side job!

There are many different skill levels accepted for this gig. At the most basic level, you can proofread for people who speak English as a second language. At a more advanced level, you could proofread for authors.

Proofreaders are always in demand because there is more and more content being generated every day!

To begin, start a LinkedIn profile illustrating your proofreading skills and experience. Then request others to endorse you as a qualified proofreader. You may have to start small to get going.

Facebook or Google Ads Specialist

Average Earnings: $30 per hour (up to $100 per hour for top freelancers on Upwork)

If you have a passion for sales, strategy, and the psychology behind marketing, then you might love being a Facebook or Google Ads campaign manager.

To get started, you need to know how both Facebook and Google Ads work. So you will need to take an in-depth online course to learn the skills. You can also become Google certified through an online course.

Once you have developed the skills, you may need to start by offering your services at a lower rate until you gain enough experience to start charging the big bucks.

As a Facebook or Google Ads Specialist, you will write copy, create graphics, analyze and test ad campaigns, monitor results and improve ads.

Businesses know that Facebook and Google Ads can be extremely effective, but they don’t want to take the time to learn all the nuances that create killer ads. That’s why this part-time job is so in demand.

Small Business Bookkeeper

Average Earnings: $20-$70 per hour, depending on experience

If you are a well-organized person who loves dealing with finances, then you would make an excellent evening online bookkeeper. You would help out small business owners who are overwhelmed with doing their own bookkeeping.

A bookkeeper is in charge of recording all debits and credits in a program such as Quickbooks or Quicken. Basically, you keep track of money in and out of a business. You may also be tasked with reimbursements for employees.

Start by offering your services on LinkedIn and Facebook groups, or check for remote bookkeeping jobs on Indeed. Try to pick a certain field or niche, and then stick with it.

Bookkeepers make up to $70 per hour working from home.

Social Media Manager

Average Earnings: $50-150 per hour, depending on experience

If you always find yourself scrolling on social media, and critiquing other people’s accounts, you may as well make great money for it! Social media management is every millennial’s dream. Essentially, you will take over a business’s social media accounts, create their posts, and curate their content.

Many small business owners are too busy to keep up with posts on social media, so they would rather pay a talented person to do it for them. They are looking for someone to curate their social channels, and help grow and maintain their following over time.

To be a great social media manager, you must have a talent for communication and writing, be creative, and have an eye for design. You do not need photoshop experience, as there are many free programs online, such as Canva, that will help you make enticing posts.

Your duties may include content creation, responding to comments, user-generated content management, and influencer marketing management.

Become a Virtual Assistant

Average Earnings: $20-40 per hour, depending on how specialized your services are

If you are well-organized, great with people, and have a thorough understanding of IT, then you would make an excellent virtual assistant. Virtual assistant jobs are one of the most popular evening part time jobs, because the opportunities are so diverse.

A VA is someone who works in an administrative or marketing capacity for a small business, but is completely remote. Some of the services you could offer include inbox management, proofreading, bookkeeping, copywriting, website maintenance, customer support, formatting email newsletters, or creating landing pages.

You could become a virtual assistant for a company on the other side of the world, which would work great for your schedule if you can only work in the evening. If you are more flexible with your time, then you could consider becoming an assistant for a company in the US.
