Here are some effective methods for converting Word to PDF without the need for dedicated software:

Using Word on Windows:

The process involves a few simple steps:

  • Open your Microsoft Word document by double-clicking on it. If the document doesn't exist yet, open Word, select “Blank Document,” and create your content as needed.
  • Click on “File” in the top-left corner of the Word window to open a pop-up menu.
  • Choose “Export” from the left-hand options column. Several new options will appear in the center of the window.
  • Click on “Create PDF/XPS Document” in the top-left corner.
  • Choose “Create PDF/XPS” from the menu that appears. A pop-up window will open.
  • Select a location to save your PDF. Click on the folder where you'd like to store the PDF version of your Word file. You can even use the same location as your Word file. You can also change the file name if desired.
  • Click “Publish” in the bottom-right corner. This action will generate a PDF copy of your Word document in the specified location.

Using Word on Mac:

Follow these steps:

  • Open your Microsoft Word document by double-clicking on it.

  • Select “Save As…” from the drop-down menu. This will open a new window.
  • Enter a file name for your PDF. Type the desired name for your PDF in the “Name” text box at the top of the window.

  • Select “PDF” from the menu. This option is under the “Export” section of the dropdown.
  • Click “Save.” It's at the bottom of the window. This action saves your PDF to the specified file location.

Here's how to utilize Google Drive for the conversion:

  • Open Google Drive by going to https://drive.google.com/ in your computer's web browser and signing in if necessary.
  • Click on “+ New.” This button is in the top-left corner of the Google Drive page. A drop-down menu will appear.
  • Click “File upload.” It's in the drop-down menu. Doing so opens a File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window.
  • Select your Word document. Go to the location of your Word document, click on the document to select it, and then click “Open.”
  • Open the Word document. Once the Word file finishes uploading to Google Drive, double-click it to open it in your web browser.
